A medical doctor with 42 years of practice experience, Dr Azambuya graduated from the University of the Republic, Faculty of Medicine, Montevideo, in 1979 with the title of Doctor of Medicine. His habilitation to practice medicine (# 1629) was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health, Uruguay. He initially served as a military doctor in the armed forces of Uruguay where he practiced emergency medical care and oversaw the health care operations at the Uruguayan Scientific Research Center at the General Artigas Station, Antarctica.

In 2001, Dr. Azambuya turned his attention to plants and their curative properties after meeting several patients that had benefitted from combining medicinal plants with traditional medicine. Since then, Dr Azambuya has dedicated himself to the study of medicinal plants and their curative properties, honing his knowledge and skills through studies that pursued at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and attending national and international phytomedicine conferences.

In 2006, Dr Azambuya began to treat patients with tinctures of medicinal plants in Galenic formulations for different diseases. Over time, Dr Azambuya has developed and used a series of complementary natural medical treatments that have been not only well tolerated by patients but that have been complementary and contributed greatly to patients’ clinical benefit as supported by clinical, laboratory and imaging exams.

Having spent more than 15 years in clinical practice, focusing on the efficacy, safety, quality and mechanisms of action of specified plant extracts, phytopharmaceuticals and their isolated constituents, Dr. José Azambuya is a recognized expert on evidence-based phytomedicine.
