Biography

Stuart Weinstein is an expert on the management of legal risk and the operation of corporate legal departments and the commercialization of intellectual property assets in industry and commerce and the health sector. Since 2017, Stuart has been Reader in Legal Risk Management, Aston University (“Aston”), Birmingham. Aston (which received its Royal Charter from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 22nd April 1966)

Stuart is currently serving as a special constable with the West Midlands Police, the second largest police force in England and Wales responsible for policing the cities of Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton.

Prior to joining Aston, Stuart Weinstein was professor and head of the law school at Coventry University, Coventry (2013-2017). In addition to being a (non-practicing) Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, Stuart is a member of the Bar of the States of California, New York, and the District of Columbia (inactive status). With law firm and in-house legal practice experience in New York, California and England, Stuart also was international legal counsel to Daewoo in the Republic of Korea (1997-1998) and its general counsel for its US automotive operations thereafter (1998 – 2001).

Stuart was seconded two days a week in 2008 and 2009 to National Health Service (NHS) Digital to assist it in the development of commercial strategy, information governance, intellectual property asset management and the mitigation of legal risk involved with the rollout of the National Casemix Office’s set of casemix groupings, called Healthcare Resource Groups (HRG). HRG provides a clinically endorsed view of acute healthcare activities undertaken within the NHS. These groups are generated via the Casemix Grouper Software which in its most current iteration is known as HRG4+.

Stuart earned a Bachelor of Honors in History of Ideas from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, a Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law in the City of New York and a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration from the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
